Show Me Questions
During your UK driving test, the examiner will ask you one ‘Show Me’ question while you’re driving. These questions assess your ability to operate essential vehicle controls safely while keeping full control of the car.
You will need to physically demonstrate the action when prompted by the examiner.
- Failing to complete the task properly will result in a driving fault (minor).
- If your actions cause danger or loss of control, it could lead to a serious or dangerous fault, which will result in test failure.
Example Questions:
- When it’s safe to do so, show me how you’d wash and clean the front windscreen.
- When it’s safe to do so, show me how you’d switch on your dipped headlights.
General Tips:
- Stay Focused & Safe: When answering a Show Me question, prioritize safety above all. Ensure you continue to focus on the road and traffic while performing the task. Never take your eyes off the road for too long.
- Move Smoothly & Confidently: Demonstrate the action smoothly without rushing, ensuring it’s done correctly. Perform the action confidently, making it clear to the examiner that you know how to operate the vehicle controls.
- Keep Control of the Vehicle: Always maintain control of the vehicle while demonstrating the action. Avoid distractions and ensure your actions do not interfere with your driving.
- Practice Regularly: Practice performing common Show Me tasks like operating the windscreen wipers, turning on the headlights, or adjusting mirrors. Familiarity with these tasks will make you more confident during the test.
- Don’t Overcomplicate It: Keep the demonstration simple. The examiner wants to see that you can perform the task safely and correctly, not with unnecessary flair or complexity.
- Refer to Official Guidelines: Make sure you are familiar with the official DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) guidelines guidelines for the most accurate and up-to-date details about the tasks.
