Eyesight Test
Your ability to meet the required eyesight standard is critical for passing your practical driving test. At the start of the test, you’ll asked to tread a parked car’s number plate.
1. Failing the Eyesight Test
- If you are unable to read the number plate correctly, your driving test will immediately terminate.
- The DVLA will be notified, and your driving licence will be revoked until you meet the required eyesight standards.
2. Key Points
You must be able to read a vehicle number plate from a distance of 20 metres for vehicles registered after 1 September 2001, and 20.5 metres for vehicles registered before this date.
3. Tips to Prepare for the Test
- Practice at home with parked vehicles to ensure you can read number plates clearly from these distances.
- Ensure your glasses or lenses are clean and up-to-date based on your latest eye test.
- If you’re unsure about meeting the standards, get a professional assessment.
- Anxiety can affect your ability to focus, so stay relaxed to perform at your best.
- Always wear glasses or contact lenses during the test if you need them to meet the eyesight requirements.
- You must continue to wear them every time you drive if they are necessary for meeting the legal standards of vision.
